Communication Technologies

Communication Technologies

In this blog entry I would like to speak about the technology changes over the last years and new opportunities for organizations to communicate. I also want to mention just a few new communication channels.

The Technological advancement has radically increased the number of opportunities available to communicate. In today’s business world, the choice of communication media is way larger than some decades ago. Therefore, communicators have the chance to choose from various opportunities and tools. They have also many channels to choose from, depending on the audience they want to reach. Just some of the new communication technologies and channels are: E-mails, blogs, internet, intranet, wikis, cell phones, telephone, and electronic newsletters.

The greater choice goes along with higher efforts to thoroughly analysing the appropriateness of a communication tool in certain circumstances. The selection of the wrong channel can make the delivery of messages useless and ineffective.

Furthermore, the technological progress, especially the Internet, has made information change and communication around the world easily accessible. Today, helpful information is often just one click away. But the is also a downside of this change. Some companies and institutions use this medium to send thousand of media letters to customers, to have an impact of customer’s preferences, or to create transparency.

The communication technologies also cause privacy loss. Another downside is the protection of some data. Many customers and even companies are concerned over their data and important documents. Every day people use the new mediums to exchange information or other data and some of them get lost.

But the rapidly improvements in the communication technologies has also some more advantages. The new technologies are way faster than their forerunners. Many of them are also cheaper and better (in form of capacity). Today, long distance calls or faxes are cheaper than a local call was some years ago. The fallen price, faster connections, and the variety of channels of communication led to a more intense use of communication tools.

Today, people use communication tools whenever they need them without thinking about the price. That has caused the mental distances between people to disappear, even if the physical distances are great.

Finally, communication is much faster today than it was in the past. The possibility of quickly exchanging information especially affects the business world. Many businesses today, which are dependent on the rapid flow of information, benefit from modern tools of high-speed communication.

Examples:

I think that communication technologies and their rapid change over the last years is maybe on of the most important changes around the world. Everyday, people are confronted with this technology and can benefit of them in various ways.

Some companies are specialized in communication channels, like the German technology firm Telekom. They have various products for all organizations. They can built new communication channels for firms and create hole communications systems.

The presidential campaign in the USA is a good example for communication technologies. The candidates benefit from this improvement day by day. They can be reached all over the world and can make their business from every single location. They have also the chance to reach millions of potential voters by television or by Internets ads.

When I worked for the bank in Germany, I saw all the benefits of that technology change. I was everyday confronted with different communication tools; like E-Mail, Internet, or telephone. I thin this improvement makes the day-today work much easier and faster.
